"The Arrival Of Spring In Woldgate East Yorkshire 27th April 2011," the vibrant acid green leaves in the background contrast with the two leafless trees in the foreground, which serve as a reminder of the just-passed winter. The scene captures the essence of spring with blooming woods and flowers, while the bare trees symbolize the recent winter. The foreground features a path or track with dappled shadows, surrounded by weeds and wildflowers. The violet blue sky complements the lush greenery.
This artwork is one of 49 studies of the Yorkshire countryside drawn by Hockney on an iPad from January 1st to June 2nd. It pays homage to the English landscape painting tradition and reflects the artist's return from California, where he experienced different light and seasons. Hockney embarked on this project to document the transformations of his homeland from winter to summer.
The complete collection of Hockney's Yorkshire studies was exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. It included one monumental oil painting and 51 iPad drawings as prints. These prints were later split into 49 smaller-sized prints, with each edition consisting of 25 prints, including the one titled "27th of April." Additionally, there was a group of 12 larger-sized prints, available in an edition of 10.
